I don't have the answer to your question but throwing out that cookbook was one of the dumbest things I've ever done.Does anyone know this old Betty Crocker recipe?
Here's a recipe from the 1950 Betty Crocker cookbook:
Early American Pear Pie
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon nutmeg, or cinnamon
2 tablespoons flour
6 cups sliced pears
1 1/3 tablespoons butter
Double crust pie, unbaked
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
Line a pie plate with unbaked pie crust.
Combine sugar, spices and flour. Add sliced pears and mix gently. Pour fruit mixture into pastry lined pie pan.
Dot with butter.
Top with remaining pie crust.
Bake until nicely browned, about 35 to 45 minutes.
If desired, garnish with cheese, whipped cream or ice cream.
Makes 1) 9-inch pie.
